I really enjoyed the Digital Signage Experience in its two-year Las Vegas run (ending last December) when the event was co-located with the bigger LDI show. Yes, I was intrigued by the potential crossover between the LDI market and the DS markets. But more than that, my experience with LDI went way back – I was one of the first employees of the legendary High End Systems in Austin, Tx., where I talked my colleagues into starting a trade magazine (“how hard can it be?”), and we all talked Pat MacKay, who was then the editor and publisher of Theatre Crafts and Lighting Dimensions magazines, into starting the LDI show. The rest, as they say, is history.
LDI has always been a very vibrant show, diving deep into much more than the “lighting” world that its title might imply. Case in point: theatrical lighting designers were the first professionals to really get a handle on integrating video into live productions with myriad sound, lighting, and staging elements. And that dynamic is much stronger now: think major Broadway productions that are now video heavy, touring show of all stripes, corporate live events that bring concert touring tech to the stage, experiential design from the likes of Moment Factory, and much, much more.
But all things must change. Even trade shows and conferences.
DSE has had a more than a couple iterations over the past 15 years. And the DSF (Digital Signage Federation) and some great industry leaders have always kept it vibrant. Registration has officially opened for Digital Signage Experience (DSE) 2025, scheduled for October 19–21 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. This year’s event introduces what the organizers call a “bold new format designed to foster meaningful connections through immersive settings, combining high-impact education, hands-on technology showcases, curated networking, and experiential activations. To cater to diverse professionals in the digital signage ecosystem, DSE 2025 offers specialized passes, including the End User/Architect Pass and the Agency/Consultant/Integrator Pass.”
